Game Recap

The Bears beat Marshall 41-7 Friday night. The Bears rode a big 27 point second quarter to victory. The Bears scored on their only drive of the 1st quarter on a run by Javon Grimes. The next drive Brennan bent but did not break, and caused a fumble. Jaylon Bussey, caused it, and Andrew Phillips pounced on it. Jason Reaves caught the next TD pass from Jordan Martinez. Fernando Pinedo then tacked the RB for a 6 yard loss on 3rd down that forced a punt. The Bears special teams came up big Friday. The first big play came on a punt which they pressured the punter to fumble the ball. Isaiah Paul recovered it on the 1 yard line. A 1 play 1 yard drive was all that was needed by the offense to capitalize. Christian Corral picked off the Ram 2 point attempt to keep the score at 6. Up 20-6 late in the 2nd quarter, the Bears scored quickly on another 1 play drive. This time Jordan Martinez connected with Alex Wise on a 47 yard Jail TD. The second big turnover by the special teams came next. Marshall then fumbled the next kickoff caused by Enrique Typaldos and recovered by Gabriel Ramos. The offense scored again, this time Darryon Tolefree caught a corner by Jordan Martinez. The Bears took the opening drive of the 2nd half for a TD. This time QB Jordan Flores scored on wedge to go up 41-6.

Offensive Leaders:
Passing: Jordan Martinez 10-16, 157 yards, 3 TDs.
Rushing: Javon Grimes 8 carries, 43 yards, 1 TD
Receiving: Alex Wise 5 receptions for 97 yards and 1 TD.
O-Line: Ben Green and Jared Linderman lead the group

Defensive Leaders:
D-Line: Kyle Hamby had 8 tackes, Trenton Bailey had 2 sacks, and Joshua Cuevas had 1.
Linebackers: Isaiah Paul had 11 tackles and a fumble recovery, Freshman Donovan Dreighton had 8 tackles, Andrew Phillips had 5 tackles and a fumble recovery.
DBs: Jaylon Bussey had 6 tackles and 2 forced fumbles, Dashaun Tolefree had 6 tackles as well. Christian Corral had an INT.

Congratulations to the Bears for winning their zone for the 4th straight year, and will play in their 4th district championship in NISD, and for their 5th district title! The Bears will play O’Connor in a grudge match of the last 2 championships. The Bears and O’C have split the last 2 match ups. The game will be Thursday, 7:00PM at Gus Stadium. BFND!!
