Game Recap

The Bears got off to a fast start, and cruised to a 49-23 victory Friday night. Jahmyl Jeter got the scoring started with a 48 yard TD run. The Bears then forced a punt after Tevin Williams’s sack for a loss of 15 yards. On the next Mac offensive possession, Jaylen Bussey intercepted a pass and returned it to the 38 yard line. The next play, Jordan Martinez connected with Jordan Smith for a quick TD. Back to back sacks by Brodrick Bates and Samuel Wells forced another Mac punt. The next score came after Isaiah Paul blocked a punt and Samuel Wells returned it to the 5 yard line. Jeter scored on the next play making it the second 1 play drive in a row! The longest run of the game came next with a 69 yard rush by Javon Grimes who ran FB Belly untouched into the end zone making the score 28-0. Later in the half Jordan Martinez connected with Darryon Tolefree for a 56 yard strike on 3rd and long.

The Bears lead 42-10 at halftime. The 3rd quarter Isaiah Paul blocked Mac’s PAT attempt. Brennan then scored on the next drive with another long run by Javon Grimes. This time it was 56 yards. Kyle Hamby played well in the 2nd half on defense. His hard work was rewarded with a 10 yard sack to help seal the game.  Javon Hopkins picked off a pass in the end zone ending a late Mac threat.

Offensively, Javon Grimes lead the team in rushing with 7 carries for 151 yards with 2 TDs. Martinez was 7 of 9 with 154 yards and 2 TD passes. Darryon Tolefree lead all receivers with 3 catches for 88 yards and a TD. Isiah Walker lead the offensive line which didn’t allow a sack, nor any QB pressures. The line also blocked for 321 yards rushing on the ground!

On defense, the Line was lead by Brodrick Bates with 8 tackles, 3 for a loss. Jaylen Bussy & Javon Hopkins lead the DB’s with an INT, and Darrion Tolefree had 12 tackles. Demim Darensbourg lead the team in tackles with 13. Andrew Phillips had 10 tackles at linebacker.

On Special Teams, Andrew Benley was 7 for 7 on PATs. Jordan Smith found good holes on kickoff returns setting up good field position for the offense. Isaiah Paul had 2 blocks, 1 on a punt, and the other on PAT.

The Bears take on the Warren Warriors next Thursday (9/28) at Farris @ 7:00PM. It is Military Appreciation day, and Veterans will be recognized and get into the game for free. BFND!!
