Game Recap

The Freshmen Bears suffered their first defeat this week as they hit the road and traveled to Johnson high school. The game was a tight one throughout and each side fought hard til the end. The first quarter was opened up with a forced fumble by Dominic Velasquez and was picked up by Dre Spriggs and returned 60 yards for a Bears TD. On the ensuing kickoff, the Johnson return team ran a reverse and took the ball all the way back for a TD. This was the final score of the 1st quarter. The teams traded blows during the second with a few big plays on both sides. QB Lucas Coley used his legs to put the bears in scoring position and capped off the drive with a run in by RB Justino Escobar. Right before the half, the Bears found TE Elliel Orozco for a 35+ yard TD strike up the middle of the field. Bears go into the half up 22-20. The Bears defense played tough during the entire game forcing three turnovers. CB/WR Sebastian Riojas made an incredible play and was followed shortly after by CB/WR Caleb McGarrity making another interception. McGarrity later was on the receiving end of a 50+ yard pass from Coley which set the Bears up to take the lead back in the 4th quarter. With just under four minutes left in the game, Coley connected with Dreighton on a 5 yard TD Strike in the corner of the end zone. After the 2 point conversion, the bears regained the lead making the game 30-26. Unfortunately, Johnson was able to add one more TD late in the game putting them back on top and giving us the final score of 33-30.

The Freshmen bears look to get back on their winning streak as they travel to MacArthur High School this Thursday (9/21).
