Warren High School
William J Brennan High School
Every player made an important contribution in the 9-7 comeback victory over Warren. Eddie Flores entered the game in the 2nd, and had 4 straight shutout innings to help Brennan’s offense get going.
Down 5-2, the Bears had 3 in the 4th. It started with a walk, and bunt single by Zamora, then a error by Warren scored two runs on a ground ball by Cuevas. Aldaco hit in Cuevas to tie the game at 5.
The 6th inning was the Brennan’s biggest. Needing just 1 run to break the tie, Jordan Davila bunted a single moving Jesse Medina from 1st to 3rd. Then Davila baited a throw from the catcher allowing Medina to score taking the lead for the first time of the night! Michael Cuevas tripled scoring another run. Then Dylan Velasquez forced another Warren error scoring what ended up being the deciding 2 runs.
Flores gritted out the final defensive 7th inning in the pouring rain to keep the Bears on top. The defense didn’t have an error all night, and the outfield (Cortez, Cuellar, Thomas, Quesnot, Huron, and Davila) did a great job keeping baseballs in front of them to eliminate any extra bases by Warren. This effort kept a few more runs off the board! Both catchers, Linderman, and Aldaco didn’t allow any passed balls on the night, keeping Warren from any free bases as well. Riley Davila started at first base, and lead the team in put-outs.
Though the Bears got outhit 13-7, timely hitting and quality at bats proved to the be the difference for the Bears! Cruz was the only Bear with multiple hits.
